Intel has announced that they have bought WindRiver for $884M.

This is quite a development in the embedded marketplace, and could cause quite a stir. For instance, how long are WindRiver/Intel going to support all those PowerPC, MIPS and ARM devices? It never makes good business to support a competitor for long, and I bet it wont be long before support for these processors is dropped, or at least given an lower priority compared to newer Intel ATOM chipsets.
So, you Defence and Aerospace people had better start thinking about porting your apps to some other OS
